About Budget Blueprint

When we first moved to Prince Edward Island, it was the first time either of us had lived fully on our own. We knew we’d have to make some sacrifices, but we underestimated how many. We spent the first few months on the gruesome beans-and-wieners diet before admitting that something had to change.

When I searched for solutions online, the options sucked. It was between a monthly-fee app, a sales-pitch meeting with a bank advisor, or an expensive online course. Instead, I wanted to stay in control of our money. So I created my own Excel spreadsheet and started tracking every dollar we’ve earned and spent. That’s when it all became clear. We were spending excessive amounts of money on cell phone bills, unused subscriptions, vehicle insurance, and bank fees. We only realized once we could see the full picture.

Over the years, my friends and family would ask me for help with budgeting, and that’s when it clicked. I already loved sharing my techniques and answering questions, so why not help others in need? These days, my budget takes about an hour a month, and it’s the most valuable hour I spend. It’s how my fiancée and I were able to comfortably afford a home here in Prince Edward Island, because we’d budgeted for it years in advance. That’s the Budget Blueprint.
